Bamboo Underpants
Do you know that there are sustainable options for almost everything that you purchase?
We all have heard of shade grown coffee and (hopefully) know not to buy things made out of tropical hardwood, but take a few moments to look around and see what types of sustainably grown fabrics you can find. You will be amazed (we were!).
Our top pick for the thing we never would have guessed: the bamboo panties from Lucy.com. An office tester says that they are the most comfortable underwear she has ever worn. Organic cotton is also a no-brainer. Insist on it for your terry cloth, t-shirts, and bed sheets. There are entire websites dedicated to only organic... a simple Google search will help you locate them all.
Cleaning products are another easy switch... those in the know have long been aware that Simple Green is just as effective as other kitchen cleaners in getting rid of grease and dirt. However, one of our office testers got some Arm and Hammer Washing Soda which has replaced all of the bleach she was using to whiten her white clothes (and takes away that bleach aroma you get when you pull on a freshly laundered white t-shirt). You can get Arm and Hammer Washing Soda in the supermarket (it is in a box, generally next to the Borax in the laundry supply isle). Remember to grab dye and perfume free laundry detergent too!
Another thing to buy sustainable is flowers... you know those you send to your Mom on Mother's Day can be grown with a lot of chemicals. Instead pick a bunch from Organic Bouquet or another organic florist and start asking your local florist if they carry organic flowers.
The point here is: be a thoughtful consumer. Click here for ideas on the questions you should keep in mind when thinking of a purchase.
Your additions to this are most welcome and appreciated!
